From the pale blue shutters and flower-filled window boxes at the front to the tucked-away patio behind, the house has its own character before you've even unpacked.
The patio is a small refuge on warm Brighton days: somewhere for coffee, a drink before dinner or a quiet hour beneath the Tree of Life.
The sea is at the end of the road, Brighton and Hove meet almost on the doorstep, and most of the city is easily explored on foot. Western Road — cafés, pubs, restaurants and everyday Brighton life — is just around the corner.
The artwork, photographs and collectables have been chosen personally over many years, drawing on a background in fine art and a lifetime of collecting. Some have a Brighton connection; others are here simply because they have character.
The sitting room is made for books, fires and lazy evenings. Downstairs, the kitchen and dining area are practical and sociable — somewhere for breakfast, supper or opening a bottle with friends.
As evening comes in, partly close the blinds, light the wood burner and settle in. The logs, books and artwork are part of what makes the front room feel less like a rental and more like borrowing a much-loved little Brighton house for a few days.
As you make your way up through the townhouse, the main bedroom feels unexpectedly light and tucked away above the rest of the house, with views across the rooftops and the sea just beyond.
The bathroom is crisp and contemporary. The second bedroom is deliberately straightforward: a small, practical single room for an extra guest.
Some of the nicest photographs come from guests themselves. These, shared with permission, say it better than any pet-policy paragraph could.
The little house has welcomed guests on the eve of weddings at Brighton's seafront Bandstand nearby. Those small, personal stories belong here because they say something about how the house is actually used and remembered.
